About

It is no secret that Building Information Modeling (BIM) has become an essential part of the building environment. The Certificate of Development – Building Information Modeling is an assessment-based certificate that establishes the knowledge and understanding of BIM concepts and detailing practices that are important for all BIM teams to know. CD-BIM has been designed to prepare entry level technicians as well as highly experienced construction professionals in BIM with a common understanding of core concepts. Some of these topics include identifying the stakeholders in the process, familiarization with the BIM Execution Plan , understanding how coordination meetings function and many other key concepts.

The course program is segmented into multiple parts. The initial part of the program addresses general BIM knowledge a developer must know to effectively function on a 3D modeling project. This effort has included input from practicing members of the BIMForum LOD Specification working group, national masonry Building Information Modeling initiative (BIM-M), and the U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD). The optional subsequent part of the program addresses discipline-specific practices and understandings. The first discipline-specific curriculum and exam focus on steel detailing and are developed in partnership with the National Institute of Steel Detailing (NISD).
